Presidential Note

Goedemorgen Zonnestraaltjes, Good morning Sunrays, Firstly, I would like to wish all of you a happy new year! I hope you had a great ending of this decade and are ready for the new one. In this new decade it is time for another presidential note.

The start of a new year is usually not easy. You probably did not have a lot of sleep after a fun ending of the year and may have a little too many drinks last night to have a fresh start of the year. Whether you are reading this in bed postponing getting out of your comfortable place or have been out of there for a while now does not really matter. There is still plenty of time to make 2020 a year to remember, and maybe even complete some of your new year’s resolutions.

For many students, new year’s resolutions are something they consider to be old fashioned, mostly done by boomers. However, this may not be the right attitude for this . While of course there is no logical reasoning for starting to improve yourself on the first day of the year, there are a lot of opportunities on the 1st of January to try to start a good habit or act differently. For example, a good resolution could be to hang out with friends more and maybe make some new ones. The 1st of January is the perfect time to do this, especially between 00:00 and 05:00 when you are in the Vestingbar or at some other party. Everyone will be in a good mood and be very open for a good conversation. You may not remember your newmade friends the next day, or they may not remember you. However, you tried, so you can still get the new year’s resolution participation medal.

Another popular new year’s resolution is to try to play more sports. As with making new friends, the 1st of January is the perfect time to start this too. Now you might be wondering, didn’t you say on the 1st of January you are usually tired? Why would this be the best day to start. Well, of course you do not feel very motivated when you wake up, that’s why you should start a little earlier than this. This is again between 00:00 and 05:00. You already have your (new) friends around you, so this is the perfect time to dance! Dancing is an excellent way to become more fit and to burn some calories, and at a party you should never be ashamed to do so.

A more student-like new years resolution is to drink less. Again, the 1st of January is the best time to do this. This time, both in the early hours of the day and during the rest of the day. In the early hours of the day you have been partying for a while now and should probably not drink a lot more, as you have already had enough. When you wake up, drinking is the best thing you can do. Except that you should of course drink lots of water to get rid of your hangover and to fulfill one last new year’s resolution – drink more water.
